I know you have to unlock your cpu to get higher multipliers, but is the same true for lower multipliers? Because on my xp 1800 i tried going from like 11.5 (default) to 10.5, and it just plain wouldnt boot at 133 fsb. Is that because i should increase my fsb when im lowering ratio or can i just plain not lower my ratio?

More about : multiplier

That's odd, considering my 1800+ AXP did multiplier of 10 no problem without the mod. I'm running my oc'ed XP right now, with a lower mult (unlocked). I may be wrong, but I didn't think you had to unlock to go lower

*shrugs* well, I could be wrong, and you may have to unlock your AXP before you can lower the multiplier

Yeah on AXP CPUs, you have to unlock to change the mulitplier at all.

Dangit, I'd really love to unlock my xp, but 1 I really don't need to do it right now, and 2 I dont have the budget to buy new stuff if i mess up the unlocking procedure.

If you follow the How-To guide here on THG, you shouldn't have any problems. My advice is to use 2-part epoxy to fill in the laser cuts instead of super glue. After filling in the gaps, you can peel off the tape and use a plastic card or plastic knife to scrape off the excess and make the laser cuts flush with the surface of the rest of the CPU. Then use some conductive paint (I used rear window defogger repair paint) to close the L1 bridges. And don't believe one word about only taking 30min. If you take your time and go step-by-step and double check your work (w/ a magnifying glass) then you might be looking at 1.5-2.0 hours.

I look at it as time well spent. I have an AXP 1500+ @ 1704MHz (12.0x*142FSB)! Now I'm tearing up the Tom's Seti Team ladder with my sub-4hr/WU times.

Have fun and happy O/C'ing!
