People, I need some help. I am totally and utterly sick of my 56k dial up, and have been for a long time. Basically since I had my PC. I've always coveted broadband internet but could never really justify it. Lads at work do (pornband as it's known), downloading everything. But, now I'm firmly involved here, I can sort of wangle it. The good lady wife doesn't mind (can't, considering the amount of clothes she buys) so I'm all up for it. So where is the problem?
Well, we are looking to move house, and I'm putting our place on the market in a few weeks. The house we have been offered by my step father (at a very discounted rate) won't be ready until at least christmas. So here is the issue. You have to sign up for 12 months mimimum, and if you cancel the contract you have to pay the remainder of the contract to them in one go. So that would be six months, at £25 per month = £150 ($240 US). And I don't want that on top of all my legal fees. I can't transfer the connection, 'cos the cable company don't rig up new houses until the demand is there, so I'm stuck with BT, and they charge through the arse for stuff. Bastards.
Part of me want's to get it, think f u c k it and I'll just pay it. Other part of me thinks it'll be better to save the cash. So help me out people, give me reasons to get connected.

It's not the same company, alas. The cable company that I'm with now don't run cable to new houses until after a few years, so I'll be stuck with British Telecom. And they suck, big time.

How stupid of me. I'll try to use my brain more in the future.
