Hi~

Just for a laugh I rigged up a sunon 8cm fan to blow through the fins from the side on the standard "boxed AMD XP2100 cpu and HSF". I used some cable ties to hold the fan in place and a few business cards with tape to make a funnel/guide to channel the air.

(Ambient room temp 16C)
To my surprise it dropped the temperature down by 15C to a nice 39C, running tests at 100% cpu usage the core temp is 45C - not bad for a crappy alloy piece of shite.

Ok its not mindblowing but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Well Done McGuyver! Wonder what would happen with one on each side one pushing and the other pulling the air through, you may have really stumbled onto something here, it sure would be quieter.

You never know what you can do until you try.

I did try pulling the air through it but it was less efficient in this instance, although a sucker and a blower that may well be a good thing.

Are you hinting at mine? Email them to me, and I can upload them. My sig below still applies when the servers get moved, but I have plenty of space and bandwidth.
