Can anybody advise me on how to setup Kerio Personal Firewall on a
Windows XP machine with an ADSL internet connection and which makes
that available via the LAN using the in-built Internet Connection
Sharing (ICS).

Having installed Kerio Personal Firewall I have found ICS stops
working, or at least the other machines can no longer browse web
pages.

I am not a network specialist and found the Advanced Rules settings
too complex to understand.

Is there a simple guide for this configuration?

Which version of KPF? Running ICS with KPF 2.1.5 is pretty simple. I don't know
about KPF 4.

I am using KPF 4

Another problem I have is that it stops Remote Desktop clients
connecting to the XP machine on which it is installed.

It keep bringing up popup dialogs asking to create a rule for some
event, however, I can't see where it puts those rules so that I can
delete or edit them at a later date.
