Don't know how the AX-7 compares to the Alpha but I know it's darn good. Here's a review I like at Dansdata.com.

The AX-7 is big at 77mm x 77mm so make sure it fits your motherboard before you buy it.

This looks to be an okay cooler. I hate it when they only test the cooler witht the second largest Delta Electronics fan available in the 80mm x 80mm x 38mm dual blade series. They used the FFB0812SHE-F00. That fan is 170 grams, 48.5 dBA, and 68.51 CFM at 4900 RPM. That is a massive fan not to mention it is the stock fan for the heatsink. That is 600 grams total pinching the die. I wish it had been made available in a screw down model.

Overclockers did a review of the prototype and of the final product. Using their simulator, they came up with an heat disipation efficiency of 0.28C/W at 76.7. That is great. However, that is 600 grams, attached by a clip, and with the FFB0812SHE-F00 fan. Is it worth the weight and noise. That is up to you.

Personally if it needs 68.51 CFM to cool to 0.28C/W, what would it do with a 46 CFM fan? I am not too sure since it has a large block of metal in the middle of the cooler. Airflow is a crucial part of heat disipation. If you want to get it go ahead.

I believe you meant to reply to madmonkey83.

Well, the AX-7 has good performance but it is big and heavy (not heavy as the Evercool CUD-715 that I am using) and noisy. 48.5 dBA is loud but I've never heard one these fans in person. I wonder how they compare to the 46 dBA, 40 cfm, 60mm Deltas, which I have heard (and found too loud and irritating).

I haven't really seen many reviews testing varyious fans on the AX-7. A quick search lead me to the link below but testing was done with only an Athlon XP 1600+. I prefer the core simulators. At least they used Toast which does yield some lofty temperatures.
