Hi All...new to this forum and was reading a few prior posts about
extended network and was wondering if anyone has any input on my
problems.

Here's our situation: 2 phones on family plan. One Motorola 710 (Mine
in minneapolis), one nokia 3589 (girlfriends in Big Rapids, Michigan).

I can text message from mine to hers with no problem, but she cannot
text to me (when she tries it says "message not sent" ). She is in
extended network 30 miles north of a verizon network area. Both of
these phones were originally programmed in Minneapolis, and the 3589
used to be able to text message during Christmas (because it used to be
my phone). I think the problem lies in the fact that the 3589 was
recently reprogrammed in Michigan via *228 when I changed a rate plan
(because thats what the CS rep said to do to both phones). The reason
I think that is because when I was in Michigan this weekend, her phone
sitting right next to mine in the extended network was reading "verizon
wireless" and mine was saying "extended network". I didnt really
realize that until just a little while ago, but I remember thinking it
was strange.

Anyways, we had spoken to tech support a few weeks back and they said
the phone needed to have the software updated and to take it to a
store...So we tried that this weekend while I was visiting and they had
no software so I figured I'd bite the bullet and pay full price for a
motorola 265 thinking it would take care of our situation...nope, still
same old story. So I took it back and reactivated the 3589.

I'm thinking this has to do with the new "no roaming charges" plan, and
they are not allowing text messages on extended networks since it
probably costs them money to send them, I'd assume. Thats just pure
speculation on my part though.

Anyways, does anyone think that if I get the 3589 back to Minneapolis,
and *228 it here, then send it back to Michigan, it is going to operate
in a similar fashion as my motorola 710 did while I was there? I think
it will...

Anyways, just looking for some input...Thanks in advance for any
help...

I had a v265 and I couldn't text message from it. I could receive but not
send. So I got a lg 7000 and did the *228 #1 and #2 and could send/receive
with no problems. But unfortunately had to send it back because verizon
doesn't have a local telephone exchange for cell phones.
