Verizon prepaid plan questions

Hi all. This is my first post, so please pardon me if I seem unfamiliar
with my surroundings. Anyway, I've had the Verizon prepaid plan for a
couple of years now and just today learned that they replaced it with
that pay-as-you-go plan. I am going to stick with the prepaid plan for
now, since it's so economical for someone who rarely uses a cell phone
($15 a month! That's pretty cheap), but my question is--can I upgrade
the phone? I have an old clunky Kyocera, and it works, but I would
prefer to get a flip phone so that I don't randomly call people from
the jostling around in my purse. I could not find any information about
upgrading the prepaid phones on the crummy verizon web site, and the
customer service rep told me that if an upgrade becomes available, they
will send me a text message. Not very helpful. Thanks in advance for
any info!

The Free-Up program was great and I wish they would bring it back. I was
getting ready to purchase 2 phones for my kids. The current "IN" program
doesn't work for me and prepaid is the only way I'd sleep @ night.

Your best bet for a new phone that won't break you is eBay. I've purchased
a phone from there before and it was fine. Other folks posting in the group
might be able to better help you in terms of compatibility issues, etc. but
I don't believe you'll have a problem.

Good luck. Oh, and I put my kids on Cingular's prepaid for $1.00/day (only
when used).

As other have mentioned, the best plan is to purchase a phone from
someplace other than VZW. I visited my local store a few weeks ago and
the CS person advised me to stick with the plan I had and buy a phone
on e-Bay if I needed one. I was in having the antenna replaced (an old
V120c) and I had replaced the battery last November. Phone works just
fine for what i need which is mininal.
