Having issues with Net Use command and network printers as a user in windows
XP. Apparently only admin’s can run Net Use to network printers in XP Pro. I
was wondering if anyone had any ideas on a work around for this. Being many
of our users are using some type of DOS based program that needs to print to
a network printer and not all the users have local printers on the lpt1 port.

What is the permission level for running Net Use to map network printers?

sorry about that double post. User can net use to a network printer. The
security team added structure that prevents non admins from mapping a
physical device on the system to a network device.

In order for the user to net use to LPT1, LPT1 must not be installed on the
system. User can net use to LPT2 and LPT3 provided there is no hardware
installed.
