Lexmark Z45 Printer software installation

The delights of XP! Recently had to upgrade the PC and was using XP for the
first time. Great I thought let's re-install all the old hardware and get it
up and running. No-one told me that you had to install the software first,
that was my first mistake. The other was to have lost the driver disc for the
Lexmark Z45 printer. So I downloaded what I thought was the correct driver
from the lexmark website and had a go at installing it. Now I'm not entirely
sure that I have installed it rather than just saved it to the hard drive!
So I plug the printer in and all hell breaks loose. Then the screen comes up
with "do you want to start Windows normally?" Yes! and it goes in a self
perpertuating loop that's cost me £35 to get repaired. All I want is a
working printer. Can anyone help me as to how to download and install a
printer driver and plug in the printer - I thought I was IT literate, it
appears not. Oh yes and I have Norton Anti-Virus installed and running!
Look forward to hearing from you soon.
