zonealarm question

Have installed zonealarm pro 4.5 on two computers. Both computers are
networked via a hub. I have ADSL connected onto one computer and have use
windows XP networking to share this internet connection to the client
computer (also running XP). Both computers see each other fine. Internet
sharing is working fine as well.

Have just installed kazaaa on the client computer. However, it will not
connect. I have followed the instructions by allowing incoming and outgoing
UDP and TCP ports, port 1214 on both the main computer and the client
computer. Still no luck.

Suggestions most welcome

When you installed Kazaa, I hope you chose a Custom install and
unchecked all of the extras. If not, your computer is now stuffed with
spyware. Be glad it doesn't work right now. Uninstall all you can, then
run AdAware or Spybot to clean up the mess.

I suggest that you implement IPsec to better secure the machines on the ICS
LAN setup behind ZA.

Since you're messing around with the P2P's, something can easily takeout ZA.

Taking a moment's reflection, Jon mused:
|
| That was my concern. I have installed klite instead. I am not sure whether
| that is more secure. I have not been able to connect to Klite as yet - as
| I stated earlier, I think zonealarm is preventing access.

As long as you have given Kazaa Lite internet and server access in ZA,
it should work fine.

| Would a router with inbuilt adsl modem prevent any potential hackers into
| my computer via the P2P software?

Possibly. But, you won't get "hacked" ("cracked" is more the correct
term) via the P2P software. You'll likely download a file containing a
Trojan that will allow the cracker in. Once activated, hopefully your
antivirus will detect it, and if not ZA should prompt you to allow it access
(assuming it isn't written to specifically disable ZA). If you do, though,
your router will not save you.
