I just wanted to know how loud a system with 10 fans would be. This system will have 5 case fans, 2 PSU fans, 1 CPU fan, 1 Video Card Fan, and it might have 1 Chipset fan. I was just curious as to how loud this would be. My old comp has only 3 fans and it can be somewhat noisy at times. Does anybody have any problems with a system with this many fans? How could I maximize airflow in the system?

Hehehe, your post just made me realize that the new additions to my system will put me at the 10 fan mark(5 case, 1 hsf, 2 psu, 1 chipset, 1 gpu). Maybe I should get a ram and and HD fan to make it an even dozen! I should have my new case and PSU by Monday or Tuesday. I can let you know then.

Hehe, sweet. Yeah, I would appreciate knowin if it sounds like a freight train going through your room. Hopefully the newer stuff is quieter and it won't be too loud.

What type of case fans did you get? Did you buy them separately? I know there are several mods out there that you can run your fans through that allow you to control the fan speed. Most of them will fit into one of your open 5 1/2 bays. Then there are fans that run off of different heat sensors...some of them have the sensor built into the fan (not recommended as that tests the case temp, not the all important cpu temp), others read the cpu or mb temp and adjust their speed accordingly. I know Antec makes fans like this, and I'm sure there are others out there. Sorry I can't give specifics right now, but I just wanted to let you know that there are options out there.

The fans are already built on the case. It has two fans on the front to cool the hard drives. One on top, and two in the back. Here is a link to the case, just in case you know anything about the fans.

I am also getting the Enermax Whisper Power Supply to reduce some noise. Hopefully the mobo will run the other fans as it sees fit to also reduce noise.

Well I have that case. The difference is I don't have the side windows, but a 6th side exhaust fan on the left panel. I've got the two in front, one on top, one side, two rear, MCX462 HSF with the Delta fan, a 500 watt Comp-USA 'store brand' twin fan PSU and VisionTek Geforce 3 Ti200 and the Abit KR7A 266A mainboard along with the Digital Doc 5. So that puts my count at 11. Do I win a prize? Anyhow when they're all running it's loud. I'm used to it, but the fan noise is distinguishable at 15 feet or so away. I also have a 4 piece corner desk setup with the case installed in a slot at the desk.
The case is great, tons of room(10 bays) with more than adequate air flow. Also I overclock my 1700(1.466) to 1900(1.640). At the worst case, my setup runs at 53C full load with a room temp about 85F. On occasion when it does idle I run in the mid to low 40's when the room temp is around 76F. The case fans are pretty quiet, my HSF fan is loud and so is my power supply. If you foucs on 'quiet' model fans for the PSU and HSF you should be happpy.

Fans these days are usually a bit better when it comes to noise than fans in the past. So the three fans in your old system are probably, individually, louder than the average modern case fan you will get today.

However, that does not excuse the fact that having that many fans will make your computer sound like an angry monster.

You might consider toning down the number of fans. As for maximizing the airflow you mostly only need an exhaust fan and 2 intake fans. That's generally the standard I see that works well. There are lots more things you can do, but they take so long to describe. Please look at my posts here if you need more information on computer noise in general.

Some people have reported that, in cases with empty spaces for 2 fans in the back as exhaust, turning one fan facing inward and another facing out. This creates a wind tunnel effect where the air is circulating much more quickly around the CPU than in most systems, and reduces temperatures drastically.

Ok, im glad i found someone with the same case. I will be overclocking a 2.4b so hopefully it keeps it cool. Yeah, i am getting a enermax whisper psu and hopefully the Asus P4S-8X has a quiet fan feature. Thanx for the input.

Those articles look pretty informative. I will read them through later tonight when i have time. So, i should make the rear fans and the PSU fans exaust and the front and top fans intakes? Would this be a good idea? Or no. I am still a month away from getting my parts, so i have plenty of time to learn about this stuff. There are probably tons of different ways to do this. I just have to play around and see which one works the best for my setup.

Thanks again.

In my own experience, I have not seen top blowhole case fans do much. In my own case I ended up disconnecting it from my power supply because it simply didn't change my temperatures to be any lower or higher or whatever.

Generally the top case fans blow air out. The theory is that hot air rises, so the fan can clear out the hot air. The main problem I see with this is that the top case fan is usually far away from the heat generating components of a computer system, and the PSU sucks up most of the hot air anyway.

By the way the Kingwin KT436 is probably the best enthusiast, non-modding case I've ever seen. Great case.
