I recently acquired a Asus P2B-F & a P2-400 & have plugged in 12mb PC100 memory & a Xentor32 (TNT2 ultra) that was kicking about, what can I hope to squeeze out of it ??? anybody...

If it is cheap generic memory, Arround 112fsb=450mhz. If it is good memory ,arround 133fsb=533mhz.

Some TNT2 Ultras cards could handle the 89mhz AGP and some could not.So this may even hold you back to the 112fsb also.

I aint signing nothing!!!

Well, you could have some more memory, 12 MB is too low to install anything like Windows!

Check the board revision, if it is 1.03 or later you can have intermediate FSBs from 112 to 133 MHz. In any case, you could oc the processor by a bit, say 450~480 MHz or therabouts not more.

As for the TNT2 Ultra card, beware the TNT2 is a 4X AGP card while the BX chipset supports only 2X AGP. The graphics chipset is backward compatible so it will run happily at 2X, but the real problem is that the TNT2 graphics chipsets draw a lot more current than the AGP 2X spec. A lot of cheap BX/ZX boards were toast with such cards running at full load since the AGP slot wasnt designed to sustain that much current. Although never heard of a P2B-F burning this way, better be careful with running intensive 3D apps on his rig, especially since the card will run at 2/3 multiplier supported by the BX chipset, making it run faster and draw more current. Its already 66 MHz stock to start with. The BX chipset lacks the 1/2 multiplier for the AGP bus.

Hi Rick, howz you?

Almost any generic memory could go 112 MHz (standard setting available on P2B-F) or maybe higher, and a few 400 MHz P-II samples could get to as high as 500 MHz (25% oc, refer http://www.overclockers.com database)

BTW 133 MHz FSB is not 533 MHz in case of P-II/P-III, the P6 core has a standard single pumped FSB. Only the P4 has a quad pumped FSB that runs at 100/133 MHz physically but EFFECTIVELY performs as if its running at 400/533 MHz.

I've had two P2 400s that would do 133fsb. The L2 cache would drop off on one if I didnt increase the latency. The other ran fine a @133fsb 533mhz no mods except the 2.05 Vcore increase.

I took the 12MB to be a typo and he meant 128MB.

Doing good . Welcome back Good to hear from you again.

Hi Rick, god to hear from you too.

Got a bit rusty I guess, I could have got that 12MB typo :)) :frown: Dint hear of a PC100 12MB stick anyway  how could I miss that!!

I tried 3-4 P-II 400s, never got much above 500, maybe I should have dropped the cache laltency. But I thought its already half clocked so dint bother.

OOPS, typo... that was meant to be 128MB... SORRY (could have been worse, I might have a P2-40...) :)
