DirectX Unrecoverable error read the readme for possible solutions

Hi,
every time i try open my call of duty modern warfare 2 a message come up saying;
DirectX error-"DirectX encounterd an unrecoveranle error. check the readme for possible solutions"
please help me, i have no clue what to do??

Did it use to work before? Is it steam version?
