Ok, I have the koolance, water system right now, and a 1700xp, I want to get some more power so Im thinking of upgrading my mobo and my cpu to a p4 2.2a, what type of ram/mobo will I need to pull this off. And how much higher can I go than 2.2a with some water cooling from the koolance cases. Thanks.

Ive heard that nearly all p4 1.6a chips can go to 2.4 and sometimes higher, you try this as a cheaper alternative to the 2.2, about a 50% o/c.

If all else fails, Go further :)

Errr... 1.6A -> 2.4 is a little high IMO, I think it maxes out at around 2.2GHZ. Although with water cooling maybe you can pump it higher. From what I have heard the 1.6A is the best for O/C out of the 400MHZ FSB processors. I'm not sure about the 533 FSB ones.

Abit and Gigabyte motherboards are great for O/Cing

the P4 1.8a is great, i got mine running on a 143fsb @ 2.57ghz, and i know it can reach higher speeds, as my core voltage is only 1.55 volts, .05 more then the default 1.5, if it wasn't for the cheap generic PC2100 ddr i'm using i know i could go higher, possibly into the 3ghz regions. let me remind you this is with air cooling, a Alpha pal and a 53cfm mechtronics fan 8cm (virtualy silent, tri bal berring)

WHOA, hold on there for a second. You have a plant that can overclock your PC. You can be rich. I would pay to see that!

Good luck. The odds of getting 133fbs is very small (unless you have an engineering sample like thg). You might have a better chance with a newer stepping of the 2.2A, but it is still a small chance. Of all of the people I have meet with the 2.2A only one person has been able to achieve that overclock with less than 1.75v.

the odds are not very small of hit 133mhz + on a 1.6a or 1.8a, + there fairly cheap. Unless i got a wonder chip or somthing.... i doubt it tho, i'm getting some PC2700 soon 512mb stick, gonna finaly see where this 1.8a levels out. hopefully i'll make it to 166mhz fsb (almost 3ghz) but i doubt it

I think he meant on a 2.2A. I'd actually suggest you wait a bit and get a 2.26B for o/cing. Air cooled, they should do ~3GHz, with water, probably 3.5... maybe.

I beg to differ. At least 75% of the people I know with a p4 1.6a and a decent motherboard get 2.4 right out the box with stock HSF. Gotta have good ram and mobo though. Seen some hit 2.56 with stock HSF. Here are my specs:

p4 1.6a @ 2.56,160x4 FSB, 4:5 mem ratio @ 400 DDR
Epox 4g4a+
Geil PC3500 433 DDR
ROCK SOLID(tested with Prime95 and 3dmark looping for weeks now) Been trying to burn in more so I can go higher.
