sorry if i posted this question twice, but it seemed like there was a problem, so i tried again...

i have a gigabyte ga-8iex motherboard...pc3000ddr. i have tried to over
clock my 2.26ghz p4 to 2.72ghx(bus speed of 160mhz) with voltage set to 1.55
. when at this speed the computer boots fine and seems to be stable utill i
run 3dmark2001se where is locks up. my question is: what should my agp/pci
mhz settings be? there is a setting in the bios that i have set to default
33/66..... is there a better tweak?.....or is my cpu just getting too hot?

Your PCI bus should not exceed 40MHz and your AGP 80MHz. The default should be 33/66. You might need to increase the core voltage a little to test for its stability. If this cannot help, you’ll need to reduce your processor core clock. Or get a better cooling system.

Don't change your PCI/AGP settings. They should remain the same.. lock them if you can..

My question is, why would you pump your FSB all the way up to 160 and leave youre vcore down at 1.5? The proper way to O/C is to raise your FSB to the point where your system locks, then jump up the vcore till it locks...

don't just increas eone and leave the other.

oh, i altered the vcore because it wouldnt boot at the default voltage.....

it seems that the agp settings prolly arent the problem, i guess step 2 would be to ask if there are any heatsinks i can get that would work better than the default p4 one?

thanks

I would suggest raising your voltage. You can safely raise it to 1.70 but go up by .05 at a time.

Yes, it definately sounds like you should use a little more voltage.

Like I Said before, probably your vcore.

P4 stock HSF's are apparently very good and don't need ot be changed if you're O/Cing

In 3Dmark

When you overclock the GPU too far it will lock up with image on screen.

When the CPU does not have enought voltage the Application close down and most likely BSOD

When the video ram is pushed too far you will see loss of video quality in the form of "artifacts" during the benchmark.

Your vcore is a bit low, 1.6 to 1.65

You are limited to what your mind can perceive.
