Not unless there's a damn good reason to do so. Or if you need to, at least try to wait a while and either get a better or cheaper upgrade.

 My PC is so wonderful it makes Svol seem less than perfect

Actually there isn't really any need for you to upgrade. If I were you i'd wait at least another 7 months to upgrade.

Unless you have considerable cash to throw about then I wouldn't. As Yahiko said, wait a while until the price comes tumbling. Intel will shortly knock a few of the lower P4 CPU's out of circulation, so the 3.06 will soon be priced as the 2.53 is now.

Does sound like a somewhat overzealous upgrade.

Unless you're using it for work and really need the extra few percent performance increase, I would not do that.

It appears getting a new cpu is not worthwhile.
How about upgrading my Asus 16X10X40 CD-RW to a DVD Burner?

Well there is still not DVD burn standard... you got both DVD-RW and DVD+RW, and I can't say which of them will win in the future. You got combination drives but they often cost about $300.
