Hi i have a printer connected to a 2003 server that is shared to the network.
I have printed to this printer from windows 98 machines using the paper sixe
us std fanfold and it prints fine. Now when i use the same settings on a
windows xp pc the totals it prints are never aligned properly in a column. I
am using the generic text only driver and have set the paper size on the
server itself. I think it may be a driver issue but no drivers are available
for this printer as it is an old nixdorf printer.

I cannot locate enough detail about the printer to be able to guess
which available printer driver might match the requirements of your
unit. It would seem to be one of the dot-matrix point-of-sale units from
Wincor Nixdorf. Please let us know the model number and any other
details you have.

In the meantime, drivers worth trying (if it is not one of the ink-jet
units) might be the Generic Epson 9 pin and the IBM Graphics printer.
The IBM Graphics printer will not print using any printer-resident
fonts - TrueType or Postscript Type 1 fonts only since it prints in
graphics mode only - if it will do anything useful at all. These drivers
are on the Windows CD. Run the Add Printer wizard and de-select options
to automatically detect and install.

PS

I have discovered a greater ranger of printers than I first suspected:
Highprint 4818, 4915, 6001 for example. They seem to be Siemens units.
however, no joy yet as the last printer-specific drivers seem to be
Windows 9x drivers which do not work with Windows NT systems (as you
know).

Hi Guys. Can you pls tell me if you have resolved this already as i am
sitting with the same problem. The only difference is that i am
printing to an epson fx2190. It works fine through the actuall driver,
but is not recommended as it prints very slow and the fonts are too
small as well. I have been searching for a different generic driver,
but no luck. Can you pls help me.

If it's printing too slow, usually it means you have the dots-per-inch
setting too high. On my Epson I can choose 360x360, 360x180, or 180x180. I
always use 360x180 because it's a good compromise between resolution and
speed. 360x360 is painfully slow and I only use it for resumes or the like
when I want the best quality.

Now, if you could use the resident printer fonts with a Generic Printer
driver you could really smoke.
