Why is it that every single post about SSD's always has someone complaining about the price. SSDs are the price they are because they're f-ing useful and f-ing fast.

If you want to sit around and wait for you HDD to spin to find some data, then go ahead. And don't forget to check your COM ports before logging on to AOL with your 56k modem, too.

If you want to sit around and watch your $500 investment slowly destroy itself, then go ahead. And don't forget to grab another credit card and drool over your five seconds of saved load time that cost you a house payment, too. Oh, a whole thirty seconds to a minute of boot time you say? Revolutionary!

Ouch. Buy me one of these and I'll never complain about the cost ever again. Fair? Or does it cost too much?

a $500 house payment?? wow.. that's really low... but our house was probably a little bit pricier at 12,000 square feet.

haha sure sure, you probably live in a fridge box under the freeway douche.

You gotta watch for the deals though...really closely. I got an Agility 2 120gb for $139 over on the Egg on Wednesday.

Yeah about time...I can hardly wait for these,to be had by me...

Sata 3 at 6.0 GB/s with SF-2200 & sizes to suit most of our pockets in case we can not afford the 128GB or the 256GB SSD's...I think I will be getting the 64GB size though, although I doubt whether they'll be cheap, but the 64GB will be the cheapest & most likely one to get out of the Patriot's Wildfire range for me...Since they all will share that 500MB's sequential read & write speeds I will not have to get into a rut about choosing just because I can not afford to buy the more expensive SSD's...

No one has posted any more posts yet since I was here last & I thought that this was real exciting news...Real fast 2.5 inch SSD's coming up for sale soon...
February 25, 2011 5:37:39 AM

Common chuck up some more posts to give us something interesting to read...
February 25, 2011 5:42:36 AM

Also one more thing extra to add & that is that I hope that they have a cleaning utility made specially for windows XP x32 & x64 for this Patriot's Wildfire SSD's...Or make Trim to suit windows XP & Vista for both x32 & x64 bits...

I have a Synology 411j with 3 Green caviars at 2TB in Raid 5 on Gigabit. Paid 500 EUR. How does this thing stack up against a 128 SSD? It doesn't.

But that would be pointless in the speed attained for consumers. A single drive doing 500MB/s is insane in and of itself. Also I don't think TRIM works in RAID.
February 25, 2011 12:30:36 PM

Release some SSDs this quarter.

Irrelevant due to it being sandforce, garbage collection is all that's offered.

Windows 7 SP1 takes WAYYYY to long to install, even on my Gen2 Intel 80GB SSD. I will skip the Gen3 drives, for they are way overpriced, and over hyped. Look for sweet Gen2 deals this Spring, and wait for next years Gen4 drives at 1TB/s.
February 25, 2011 1:23:41 PM

So how does this one measure up in terms of actually erasing the data off it? Does it take 58 tries before it is completely wiped?
February 25, 2011 4:34:10 PM

In reply to HavoCnMe...Yeah I read that same article the other day & I could not believe what I was reading...Although they could of said which operating systems that these tests where done on...

Do they last more than the average 5 years???
February 25, 2011 9:09:19 PM

I would love to have one of these bad boys!

there is something wrong with your computer....after the d-load was finished it took me about 20min or so to install on my 256gb revodrive x2....

Too bad these type of speeds don't matter unless there's a large capacity behind it...

tavixDo they last more than the average 5 years???

you will get a new drive long before the supposed 5 year life of the drive

supertrek32Too bad these type of speeds don't matter unless there's a large capacity behind it...

i also install 7 sp1 around 20 minutes something like that, just using seagate 7200rpm. well, pc needs soft touch from your soft hand. if your hands cursed, using raid with SSD 500MB/s with 10GHz processor with 20GB or ram wouldn't satisfying you :D

well, when they get back their money for ssd's RnD investment, i hope they will reduce the price. starting from that moment, i'll buy!

SSD technology has drastically increased my capability, I am an IT guy for a Marine unit currently in Afghanistan. I run a share drive for people to get movies off (for those of you worried about pirating, each file has a trojan built in that destroys the movie after being removed from my server and 2 watches...) I started to convert my 10TB media drive to SSD when i got a great deal on some cheaper A-DATA drives, running 10 64GB drives in raid 5 for my most popular media dropped my processor demand by about %50-%60. I have also put a SSD in my Toughbook to increase speed while decreasing power usage. This gives me about 8 hours of standard usage, 7 hours of movies and 5 hours of gaming. The speed aspect, i am running a custom build of windows 7 ultimate, my boot time is currently 15-25 seconds cold start, 5-10 sec from hibernate, and 8 sec shutdown! so for those of you that say its a waste to spend money on SSD's do your research and know what they are capable of!
