I've been wondering, for those of you out there who are using a LinkSys Etherfast 10/100 5port workgroup switch (or something similar). Have you ever had the problem where one of the connections temporarily "goes out", usually the first port (I don't know, this might happen on other ports too for other people).
Usually I can be looking right at the swich, and the first column of lights goes out for about half a second and then lights up again. Network connections are temporarily interupted but nothing is lost (data transfer resumes immediately after the lights come back on). I have four other machines connected to the switch, and while the first column of 3 indicator lights goes out, the rest remain lit.
Not sure what to make of this - maybe my switch is a dud or I have something else going on. But it is mildly annoying. Anyone have any ideas?
Maybe I should try using some of the other ports for this machine and leave the flakey one to my other, less frequently used boxes. Do you think trying a different cable would help at all,
It could be a bad connector. Sometimes internal disturbances will cause the wires to loosen and not connect. Try connecting another computer's network cable to that same port. If it doesn't repeat it, then maybe its the cable. If it does, possibly bad switch.
