Hi,
I have a question:
My system is an asus a7v333, athlon xp 1600, 256 mb nanya ddr333.
- Will my system run stable with an 166 mhz fsb, 33mhz pci, 166 mhz (*2) membus?
- Could i likely damage my system if i try this out?
- anyone done this yet?

no, 158 to 160 is the limit for now. (i believe i have heard somewhere a 162 or 163 for a specific mb but i don't remember which one. i think it was the IT7 MAX)
not at all.
not yet. (without LN2 or whatsoever foolish things like that)

OCing goal is for along (saving some bucks as well), not for A POST.

i've plugged my home blower to my case ... dunno what happen ... that works?!?

I remember reading reviews where a 166fsb was acheived but I think that was for boards with a KT400 chipset
(a update may be released for 166fsb on your board when the 166fsb Athlons come out & if your board is rated for it, if U are desperate to know you could try emailing Asus, but god knows if/when U will get a reply)

no-one shouts louder than someone who is being ignored, or in the case of techies, to be heard over the noise of their PC's ;-)

Not sre i if it helps any but try a unlocked cpu, an athlon tbird or an unlocked xp and lower the multipyer then try it, I had a 1.4 tbird at 15?? and 185fsb in a msi kt3 ultra aru wich has a tk333 chipset. So I know some kt333 boards do support 166fsb just not sure shich ones, As with All asus boards, they always lead in overclocking features so it will more thanlikly will run 166fsb.

If you ever stop learning, YOU'ER DEAD!!

Not what you are looking for but I have a TUSL2-C that will run 166fssb completely stable. Can boot into windows up to 174fsb but 3dmark kicks me out.

So it is possible but not many setups can achieve 166fsb, without modifications.

I aint signing nothing!!!

Just one more question, I'm about to get a XP 1600 AGOIA Z too, so would like to know what Vcore are you running at.
Thanks.

It´s almost the best code for XP1600 overclocking. At least for me, AGOIA is better.

The last almost guarantees 25% overclocking with no more than 10% overvolting

I've got a 7vaxp running at 176mhz right now.

I dunno if it's stable. Icewind Dale 2, Unreal Tournament, Mechwarrior 3, Medal of Honor, and Max Payne are the only ones I've tried. And those only for 10 or 15 minutes.

I'm planning on setting up a 16bot cycle on Unreal tourny, and letting it grind though the night. I usually turn on all the eye candy so it has to work a little bit looking at that blank wall sometimes.

Anyway, I can tell the difference.

I'm running my Duron Morgan AHHAA 1000MHz @ 1245MHz ( 7.5 x 166MHz overvolted to 1.9V aircooled by a CyberCooler P-20000AC ) with 128Mb of Samsung PC2100 @ 166 ( 2.5/3/3/6 ) on a A7V333-RAID using BIOS 1011. If a lowly Duron can do it, I belive a AXP can do it too...

I don't think my CPU is such an oddity because I built a similar system for a friend using the same motherboard model, 256Mb of Samsung PC2700 and a Duron Morgan AHLCA 1200MHz running @ 1166 ( 166 x 7.0 ) undervolted to 1.55V.

I'm still tunning my system, stable so far, even overclocked my GeForce 2 MX 400 @ 240/200 for a 3dMark 2001 SE score of 3505.

I just flashed the BIOS to 1014, my scores went up by 10 points... WOOHOO !
