Specs(if applicable):
Compaq Presario 8000Z
Mobo: No friggin' clue! (Even after all the research I've done) It's possibly a KT266.
AMD Athlon XP 1500+(1.33mhz)
512mb Crucial PC2100 CL2.5
Maxtor 40gb 7200rpm
GeForce2 MX400 64mb
I own a built FOR me pc. It will be the last time. I've really barely touched the surface of the "built BY me" way of thinking. Here's my problem:
My BIOS(which I reach by hitting F10 at startup...COMPAQ in big red letters covers up my BIOS startup screen) is extremely simple and doesn't allow for ANY oc'ing options. I flashed my BIOS with the latest upgrade, which did nothing but 'Improve AGP Video Card support and move one time boot hot key to Compaq standard F9 key'. Oh thank you Compaq! I was just getting sick and tired of moving my finger ALL THE WAY to the F10 key. Phew!
Is it possible for me to get a normal BIOS like awardBIOS? Or is that what I have, but it's just being blocked by the Big Red COMPAQ? I have no idea.
Can I download another BIOS which let's me OC? I wanna be able to mess with the multipliers. I've got 1.33mhz which I think means 10x133FSB. Also, I've got stock cooling on the chip. It looks like alot of different HSF's, but I'm assuming stock fans don't do as well as say a Volcano 9?
Anyways, am I SOL? Do I need to upgrade my mobo/CPU? Or is there a way around Compaq's dead-bolt?
If anybody has any straight forward ideas(good or bad) that would help me resolve this issue, I would be very grateful.
Thanks.
