Printer Permissions

For reasons unknown I can no longer connect to my printer from my laptop. I
have been printing from the laptop without problems for over a year. My OS
is WINXP Pro SP2 and is fully up to date with all patches installed.

My printer is hardwire connected to my desktop and my laptop connects via a
wireless connection. The wireless connection between the two machines is OK
as I can share files and connect to the web from the laptop. The desktop
prints without problems. When I try to print from the laptop using Notepad I
get an error message 'Invalid Handles' (or words to that effect).

I have deleted and reloaded printer drivers (HP930c) ad nauseum. When I try
to set up printer sharing using the 'Wizard', the laptop sees the printer
share name (using browse) and drivers are downloaded to the laptop and the
Wizard completes normally without error messages.

I have concluded, correctly I think, that the problem is not a network
problem as the network functions satisfactorily in all other respects. From
my 'research' (Google and the like) I have run out of ideas. The problem
might be related to printer permissions but I do not have a 'Security' tab
under printer properties ('hp deskjet 930c Properties') on either the laptop
or desktop as indicated by 'Help and Support' so I cannot check printer
permissions. I know this may be a long shot as the permissions default is
'all users' but I am puzzled why I do not have the 'Security' option.

I would appreciate it if anyone can suggest why the printer Security option
is missing from my system and how to restore it. Any other suggestions on
what my problem maybe will be equally welcome.

The Security option is called "Sharing", see if you have that.

I have a similar problem in regards to not having this"security" tab. I
can't even get other users on the same computer to be able to print even
though the user sees the printer and shows that it is properly installed. In
fact, it even sends the print job but it just never prints unless I am
printing through the Admin. I was given the following link to try and take
care of this:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/security/learnmore/accesscontrol.mspx

At the bottom, it tells you supposedly how to turn on the security tab so
you can use it. Unfortunately, the part where it tells you to uncheck the
box with "Use simple file sharing " marked doesnt exist for me. Maybe this
will help you, however, it still hasn't helped me!

If anyone else know what to do that would be great.
