XP PRO: Fax printer reinstalls as Document Image Writer

XP Pro/SP2

My fax printer driver must have become corrupted because the console said
there was no printer driver installed. I went to Add Windows Components,
added Fax again and nothing happened. Went to Printers/Add Printer and let
the wizard add a fax driver and it came up with a Microsoft Office Document
Image Driver on LPT1. Fax Console still complains there is no fax driver, so
I'm assuming that's the wrong printer driver.

I'd like to force the install of a printer driver but I don't know what port
it's supposed to be on and where to go to look for the driver.

Thank you.

Jean

There is no information here.
Verify that Windows XP Fax ever worked on your system.
If so, list the steps that broke it.

Maybe you didn't receive my entire message. Stating that the printer driver
became corrupted is an implication that the fax driver at one time worked,
but if you need a specific statement that XP Fax worked, yes it did.

I don't know what broke it. It doesn't really matter what corrupted the
file, I need to re-install Fax.

Then at the very least list the steps you've used to reinstall it and what
happens when you try.
Did you read the directions?

I didn't read those specific directions, but I did those steps without the
prompt. Everything looks as if it installs correctly but then when I bring
up the fax console it has an indicator that there is no fax driver
installed.

I've also tried installing a printer as a fax and end up with Microsoft
Office Image Writer on its own port.

You certainly have left out all of the relevant information.
That second option certainly would never work, but finally explains how you
ended up where you did.
Focus on the first option. It is the only one that would work. Explain in
detail what you did, what happened and your suspicion on why it worked when
you first installed Fax but not this time. You're the only one with the
information that might give us a clue.
