I'm returning after an absence, and am wondering which expansions I may
have missed. Currently I have:

EverQuest Classic
The Ruins of Kunark
The Scars of Velious
The Shadows of Luclin
Planes of Power
Legacy of Ykesha
Lost Dungeons Of Norath
Gates of Discord
Omens of War

What else have they released, and do I care, if I start over with low
level characters?

Also, my son is planning to start his own account instead of leeching
off mine; whats the cheapest way to get him up to speed, ie the
equivalent of platinum plus latest expansion, again, if there's any low
level content at all with the latest expansions.

Dragons of Norrath. That's a 'could wait on' because the content
is for higher levels (60+ or so) except for one thing: The addition
of guild lobby/guild halls. If you are planning on joining a guild,
the guild hall is a good thing to be able to utilize. If you aren't,
the guild lobby is a great thing for recovering your corpse from
hard-to-reach places. But for lower levels, that shouldn't really
be much of a problem.

Totally not a direct answer to your question but perhaps an indirect
one.

A group of us have started playing together one night a week and we
made a group that is completely incapable of higher level content, but
we're all playing something we want to play for fun.
The last 2 weeks we've been in Estate of Unrest and we're having a
great time. I mean the most fun I've had playing EQ, ever.

Point being is it's not really the content you can get to but who
you're playing with. I've always understood EQ was a social game, and
that's what I loved about it, but I never understood just how great it
could be if you had the right group. Previously I'd had what I
thought were great groups, and from a purely 'everyone knows what
they're doing and we're chewing through mobs' I have. But for just
plain ol fun? Nope, apparently not.

For those who will ask:

gnome SK
troll Beserker
ogre Warrior
dwarf Paladin
wood elf Ranger
half elf Bard

Long live Gob's of O (Offense)!!!

/generally agree

The expansion like many before it offers a bit of utility to the
lowbies. I know a lot of people doing without it though, and not really
missing it.

Falling into a trap in befallen, najena, etc at low levels is just as
unrecoverable as nearly anywhere a high lev might stumble.

As others have answered, the only one you're missing is Dragons of
Norrath, which you can probably do without for now. The highlights
of each expansion are also listed in the FAQ.

Question for someone who doesn't have DoN: I know the Guild Lobby
isn't available without DoN, and I assume the Bandolier and Potion
Belt are also missing. What about the Barter Hall? It was
originally a separate zone, and DoN-only, but now that it's been
merged into the Bazaar is it possible for non-DoN-owners to sell
to people who've set up buyers there? Can a non-owner set up a
buyer?

Hm, I should also ask the eqtraders channel whether you need to buy
DoN to work on the new cultural tradeskills (unless someone here
happens to know).

Heh, I was going to send out the monthly FAQ post today, but maybe
I'll wait to see if I can get the above answered first. :-)

A non-owner is not allowed to set up a buyer, but I believe they can sell to
one.

Not 100% sure, but I believe you do.

Which is when you find a necro or SK to summon the corpses for you, or a
high level person to drag them out for you. Kind of like in the old
days...

Exactly. Just like high level players without DoN do.

ie Being high or low makes no difference. Its just as easy to lose your
corpse, and its just as easy to get it back. With or without DoN. (The
only exception being a zone like maybe Hate)
