I am installing an Internet control software called "Browse Control" from
Codework on 50 Dell GX270's. There are two software installs that have to
take place, one on the server & one on each client to be locked down. On the
PC's that I have installed this on, users are unable to print. They are able
to print from a non-windows application such as ADP (Telnet based) but not
Word, Excel, etc. I have relaxed all Internet access, allowing all sites to
go through but to no avail. On one workstation I uninstalled the program &
printing goes through just fine. At first I thought it was a SP2 firewall
issue but after turning that off it still fails to print. The printer
initiates & acts like it will print but no-go. I selected NetBIOS over TCPIP
& print directly to printer with no change in results. When setting up it
appears they added each printer on the clients as a Standard TCPIP Port under
Local printer attached to this computer. I have added this software before
with no issues at other clients. I dont get it. Also - When a user is
sending/receiving in Outlook express, a message pops up - "Task 'pop3 -
sending' reported error (0x8004210B) : 'The operation timed out waiting for a
response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this
message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider
(ISP).' I also noticed that they are using static public IP's. I have no
idea why. There are 50 seats. You would think that they would be using
private, dynamic IP's on their PC's as well as the printers, all Lexmark
Optra T612's. I am able to print to that printer with the browse control
application installed via telnet but not Windows. Ideas?
