Is it pointless to OC a bottlenecked vid card?

I've been tweaking my GF4 Ti4200 64mb a little just to see what 3dmark2001SE scores I can achieve. Here's my specs:

AMD Athlon XP 1500+(1.33mhz)
512mb Crucial PC2100
40gb Maxtor 7200rpm

3dMark scores:

8377(Leadtek Drivers)
8365(30.82) Default
9079(40.72) Default
9382(40.72) 275/550 - Stable
9562(40.72) 300/590 - Stable <--Haven't pushed it further

Is my CPU holding back the OC potential of this card? Or are these normal OC scores. I just figured I would get a higher than 483 point jump going from 250/513 to 300/590.

I've not played around much with the GF4. But the few articles I've read about it say the processor isn't nearly as memory locked anymore.

Meaning, you need to o/c your gpu and memory about the same.

Other than that, no; I'd expect your card to lockout at 1024x768. Unless you're running at 640x480; then your processor is ass old and you need to chunk it.

Or until a P4/Ati fan shows up, and tells you that your entire system sucks and you need to chuck a moltov cocktail in the case, and buy a real machine with a real gpu...

The CPU will always be a limiting factor... ie the higher the CPU clock the higher your score !

But with a CPU speed like that it is more than fast enough to provide the Graphics card with. And the basic facts are that overclocking will not give you huge jumps in performance gain!

Hmmmm... seems like you're having the exact opposite problem as me. My video card seems to be bottlenecking my CPU. Overclocking the CPU doesn't increase perf much at all.

I'm sure if you overclocked the CPU a bit even, you'd see quite a performance increase.
