You can download it at your local computer software retailer. It will cost you about five dollars....

That game is oldschool. I bought it when it first came out and that was the first game I ever played online. A 300 ms ping was good, and anything under 200 was amazing :)

Man, I remember back when I was 13 or 14, I bought X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter and the graphic were AWESOME! I loved the gameplay of the individual level. But what I did not like was the lack of a story line. I think that's what killed what shoulda/coulda been a "Game of the Year" type of game.

There is no "Compatibility mode" for XvT

Try VDMSound (see link).

I don't know if it will work for X-Wing vs Tie Figher as it's designed to work with DOS games and hybrid games (DOS games that use a Windows frontend). It is designed to fix sound issues.

why not just use a win98 boot disk and find the file and run it in dos mode.

That would be tough unless he reserved a FAT32 partition. Windows 98 and DOS can't "see" NTFS partitions.

i forgot about that. Playing with old DOS games in a NTFS partition is quite tough these days.

x-wing or tie fighter?
I've seen this in kazaa, i don't know if there is a tie fighter only game and a X-wing only game.

There are three games X-Wing, Tie Fighter, and X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter.

I'm not sure but I think the last was only released in the X-Wing Collector Series, which contained all three games.

No, it wasn't. You can get XvT by itself (I did).

There's X-Wing, Tie Fighter, X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter, and X-Wing Alliance in the series.

I want to find the X-Wing and the Tie Fighter's Collector's Edition. I need to play those old games on a "newer" engine.

I remember I couldn't beat this level where I had to escort the empreror.

Games like that stick in your head for a long time;

Nope, I meant "newer" engine. The Old X-wing & the Old Tie Fighter were built off of really old engines when they were released in 1992 & 1994 respectively. They were later upgraded to the XvT engine in a new "Collecter's Edition" for each of the games.
