I have 2 PCs networked thru a D-LINK 704 router (peer). My main PC is running Win2k Pro and my wifes laptop is running Win 98FE. Any folder I share on the laptop I am able to access fully on my main PC (Win2k). However, when I go to access shared files on my Main PC from the laptop, I get asked for a password to access that PC even though I never specified one. I tried every password I could possibly imagine but to no avail.
Is there any way to reset this password when trying to access shared files on the the win2k PC from the win98 laptop? Its really frustrating. Thanks.
the password is just a USERNAME and PASSWORD combination that exists on the 2K box. You have to "log in" with that particular password on the 98 box. If you specify "Microsoft Networking" as the login, instead of Windows (in the Network and dialup connections applet in the control panel) you then just log in with the exact username and password that is privileged enough to access the shared folder on the 2K box.
It's always the one thing you never suspected.
