Every so often I boot my system (XP sp2, all updates installed)
when my (old, but reliable) HP Laserjet 6L (on LPT1) happens to be out of
paper. Every time I do that, I discover that putting paper in
won't help - I have to reboot the system before the printer will
print again.

Is there a less drastic solution than reboot? (None of the buttons
I've tried in any of the system printer dialog boxes seem to help).

I was hoping for a printer equivalent to the network "repair network
connection" button.

Have you tried turning the printer off for 30 seconds, and then on
again?

Difficult to do with the 6L - it doesn't have a power
button. I suppose I could try unpluging it and pluging
it back in, but given the rat nest of cords, its probably
easier to reboot :-).
