Tualatin 1.4GHz 512k at 150FSB?

Is it possible?

I've spotted some 256MB sticks of Crucial PC-133 guarateed for PC150.

Be nice if I could add a serious S370 CPU to that.

Assume max of 512MB RAM with an Abit ST6-R for openers...AGP at 1/2 = 75MHz...Radeon DDR BTW...PCI at 37.5MHz and the CPU would run at 1575MHz.

Possible?

Easily possible if the CPU can go that high (not likely for most CPU's though).

<font color=blue>You're posting in a forum with class. It may be third class, but it's still class!</font color=blue>

My 1.26/512 does 1583 easily@166fsb 3/2/2/7/9. after that my memory cant handle any more unless I run 3/3/3/7/9 which then kills the overclock and scores lower. Or I get memory errors.

I can boot up at 170fsb but Mad Onion sends me back to the desktop. So I'm still looking for some PC166 cas2 memory but have'nt found it yet.

You should have no problems at all at 1.6v to 1.65v at 150fsb. Might even do it at stock voltage.

I aint signing nothing!!!

I assume stock cooling is fine too?

What sort of performance do you get in relation to XPs and P4s Rick? Be curious to know if I'm wasting my cash on a CPU and memory, when I could be getting a cheap XP solution.

<b><font color=blue>~ <A HREF="http://www.btvillarin.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=324" target="_new">My System Specs</A> ~<font color=blue></b>

My scores are a little above and a little below a P4 2.0gig or an Athlon 2000+. On Mad Onion I score 10299 with a G4 4200 at 285/570 at 1425mhz 150fsb memory at 2/2/2/7/9 with the 40.72 drivers.

I only have 1 256mb stick that will run at 166fsb and that is at 3/2/2/7/9. Just havent tried it with the new drivers yet.

I can also play UT2003 at 1024x768x32 with all detail settings set to max or highest setting possible. With no skips, stutters or slowdowns.

I aint signing nothing!!!

Hmmm. So I can expect a 150 (1575) to run in line with a P4 of the same CPU speed then...

Not bad for a memory/CPU upgrade. I assume an Aopen 300W PSU will handle it too. Looks like it has the same voltage and wattage spec as the 1.2GHz Celery.

I'm £175 for the tully and about £85 for the memory, £260. Or I can get an XP1700+ solution with 512MB PC2100 and a cheapo mobo...but I reckon I'll need a 350W PSU with that.

Hmmm...

Yes a P3 Tualatin/512 performs a little better than a Athlon at the same speed.Plus a P3 is a simple cpu swap for you. With no need for a noisy H/F.

Many people will argue that the AMD is a cheaper route, but cheaper is not always better. Especially if you have to buy a new powersupply,memory,motherboard,H/F. And then the hassle of a complete OS reinstall. And software reinstall.

I aint signing nothing!!!

A bunch of people over at overclockers.com run their PIII-S chips in the 1700-1800 range so I think 1575 (150FSB) would be a walk in the park.

My Celeron-1200 tB1 (made 29th week of 2002, Malaysia) runs @1700 (142FSB) at 1.70 Vcore on a TUSL2-C with an old junky heatsink from a Tbird-900. It'll do 1600 (133FSB) at the default 1.50 Vcore.

NO!!! Such a configuration would be roughly equal to a P4 1.8A in performance!

Where did you get that price for a 1.4? At MicroDirect a p3 1.2-s is like £190. However, if a 1.4 really does perform that high, I might think about keeping my setup and upgrading my p3 750 rather than my whole setup :) That would be sweet

errr... wow... OK...

Crashman: I'm sorry I offended you, I do respect your opinions (even if I don't agree) and recognise your point about baseline scores vs performance systems is completely valid.

I could be wrong, but I don't think I've ever discussed Sandra baseline vs real world scores with you before.

I will delete my previous post and approach this from a different angle. I'll post my specs and benchmark scores without comparisons and invite other people to post their results.

Specs:
Celeron-1200 tB1 @1704mhz @1.80vcore
Asus TUSL2-C rev1.04
64mb PC100 CL3
ATI PCI Mach64 4mb video
5gb ATA-33 Quantum Fireball

I just downloaded Sandra 2003.1.9.26:
Arithmetic MIPS: 4655
Arithmetic MFLOPS: 2292
Multi-media int: 8992
Multi-media FP: 11291

Clibench MKIII SMP 0.7.15:
Drystone 2.1: 3805 MIPS
Whetstone: 983 MFLOPS
Eight Queens: 6238 pps
Matrix Ops: 56516 k ops
FP Ops: 13173 k ops

I'll run whatever other processor benchmarks people want, but with my 64mb of PC100 and ATI PCI video there's no point in me running game benchmarks.

Crashman: Can you post your results for your 1000EB and whatever other chips you are currently running?

Rick Criswell: Can you post results for your 1.26-S?

Can anyone else add any P4 or XP scores for comparison?

Er, this could be embarising for me, but aren't you the one who actually posted a thread that their overclocked Celeron could beat Pentium 4's a couple months ago, and used Sandra baselines as proof? If not, I would be TERRIBLY sorry for mistaking you for them!

I don't think it was me. I've only had this celeron (which is my first personal celeron ever) for a little over two weeks. We have celerons on i810 boards in Dell workstations at work, but they don't get much overclocking.

Oh, if you want me to bench my system to match, would you please send me the exact same benchmark revisions? You can PM me to make arrangements.

No one is sending any results so I can only post differences between Rick's system and my own... and a Celery-1000 from work... and my dual PIII-800Es...

BTW: The chip I have (Celery-1200) is only £35 and keeps up with Rick's P3-1266-S in most tests (sorry Rick) when I run it at 1700.

[edit]
To be fair I should mention I VID pin modded my Celeron to 1.65v default.
