steam is a (relatively) new way of distributing software and updates. You download steam and it updates your applications as needed. Check out their website for more info.

I think steam is set to replace the current HL in-game browser. I think eventually all mods will be accesible from steam and the original HL interface will die.

Question: Once we get steam can we then uninstall CS1.5? TBH I could do with the space back if it was possible.

Im currently DL the content of CS to see what its like. I chose to keep my old HL setup so that I could still play on CS1.5 servers for the moment. Im also setting up a 1.6 dedicated server, which also requires you to dl content :(

sorry to contradict

HLDS 1.1.1.1 is still CS 1.5. HLDS for CS 1.6 starts with 1.1.1.1d+. If you think i'm wrong, try to connect to my CS server (running HLDS 1.1.1.1) with CS 1.6 .. it won't work ;)

I tryed installing steam over the weekend. Boy does it suck! I doesn't update itself like it's supposed to. After a few hour of screwing around with it I only was able to log on and play one game. Then when you try to uninstall it it screws up your half life exe's. I'm going to have to completley uninstall half life and reinstall just to get ride of STEAM. At first I did like the interface and a few of it's options but from what I could tell from the message boards the STEAM servers are not running 100%....or even 90%., which can cause your games not to load or can cause STEAM to not update it self. I hope they fix their bugs soon. Right now STEAM is what comes off fresh dogsh#%t in the winter.
