I'm in the need of more power but unfortunately i dont have the money right now to invest in anything but a new memory module which i just got a 256 Sdram pc133.
My system includes: Cpu 450mhz pentium III , SE440BX-2 mobo , 384mb Sdram pc 133 , 64mb Geforce 4 Mx440 Tornado, Creative Vibra 128mb, 30Gb W.D 7200rpm ata100, 8GB segate 5400rpm ata 100, Yamaha CDRW2200 20X40X10, BTC 52X CD-rom, Generic Floopy disc, 2XEthernet 10/100 cards from Realtek, running on Xp.
Anyways ive just added 256mb sdram to my system and it runs a bit better and i dont get those "no virtual memory" or slow loading programs. But what i was wondering is if i can overclock my Cpu and or my mobo to get more speed out of this stable system. U know i really can't complain although if i wasn't in need of a display card 6 months ago and would've had more money i would've but a geforce 3 ti 500. :(
btw, ive never overclocked before!!
1. can i overclock my cpu and or my mobo? how ?!?

2. If so, What can i overclock it to?

3. Have you noticed that many of the ea games this year dont look that great graphically wise ( only nhl 2003 does). is that only a problem with my system cause of the geforce 4 mx 440 i have or what? maybe my directx isn't "read" by my system ?!?!?!

You need to overclock the mobo I think you P3 is a 4.5x100=450MHz so you need to up your fsb from 100 to what ever is stable think the justa are 110, 115, 125,133, 140, 150 thats what they are om my mobo buy yours maybe different I got my P3 600EB to 675 with a 150 fsb, don't go from 100 to 150 or you could kill the cpu go up by the next step ie. 110x4.5=495MHz :) 115=517MHz (you get the picture) if it runs stable for a few weeks or under prime95 for several hours yer ok you might wanna download motherboard monitor as well to keep an eye on your system temps, if they raise to high you'll have to lower the speed till you have a nice hsf (I gotta 1Ghz capable cooler on my cpu :) )

oh also you could try downloading softfsb to adjust the fsb from windows

hope this helps, good luck and take is slowly

if i up the fsb slowly even to 110 there's no way of damaging the cpu or is there? i really dont have the money to damage my system...so hopefully ur info is accurate:)

What about the memory ?? my C2 module (256sdram pc133) i was told it could be clocked!?1?

there's always the risk as long as you don' go to far too fast you should be ok as for the memory it's already rates faster then your fsb ie fsb=100 memory=133 so theres nor real problem there,

as long as your cpu doesn't over heat you should be fine make sure you have enough cooling and try downloading motherboard monitor and watch you temps when not overclock and then when you are if it rises to high you'll need better cooling

also if you system locks-up or become unstable switch back to normal, the risk is there though normally it's a little risk don't expect to get a 133MHz fsb though you could get lucky also try going to the forum at overclockers.com they know more then me and might even know what you expected clock speed should be

have fun
