Visit Intel's CPU Spec Finder to find such statistics. For your CPU it happens to be 72 C, which is around average for a northwood, give or take a few degrees depending on core.

Thanks, I found that. I guess what I was really trying to ask is what is the maximum operating temperature that the CPU should be running at under normal and heavy usage conditions. I see a lot of talk in the 40 to 50 degree C range, so is that the ideal?

A northwood running at stock cooling and settings in a good case will idle around 31 C. Load around 38 to 40 C. Shouldn't exceed 50 C under the heaviest of torture tests.

Even my overclocked 1.8 to 2.4 (100 to 133) never hits more then 44.

Since intel says 72 is the max safe, unless it goes beyond 50 or 55 all the time you should be more then ok.

Ahhhh......sounds like I should have good potential to OC. I ordered a TT Volcano 7+ and two additional fans for my case (total of 5). I will keep my fingers crossed!
