Thermal tape for a GPU Heatsink?

I have a copper coller from vantec made for a GPU. Now its holes dont match the locations of the ones on my Radeon 8500LE. I emailed vantc and they said to use the 2 sided thermal tape to attach instead of the plastic clips.

My worry is that of gravity. Should I be worried?

i suppose you can use double sided thermal tape(make sure they are the sticky type) and dont need to worry about the cooler coming undone, since those tapes are pretty sticky. but i used arctic silver thermal adhensives instead, it requires more work to be done but it offers better performance than the tape.

was thinking about that, but I not much for the wait time on it. But I guess good things come to thos who wait. Can you use that stuff for RAM sinks too?

i second arctic silver thermal epoxy or something similar

its a combination of epoxy and thermal paste, so it also transfers heat while it sticks.

it will work on ramsinks as well

Just make sure you do it right the first time... Epoxy resin doesnt allow for second chances LOL.

a nice even and not too tick layer of arctic silver epoxy that has been evenly mixed previously.
Put the card on something a bit soft like a sheet of foam, then a weight on the heatsink or some other method to keep the HS firmly pushed down on the core until the epoxy resin FULLY cures. Leave it for a bit longer than reccomended as the resin will soften slightly when heated.

could I use low presure clips? otherwise I guess a physics book should do the trick.

BTW, what is telstra?

I would like to know that as well. I almost PM'ed you about it. What's this anti-obsession about Telstra about??? Please tell (In The Other if you prefer  ).

You can use anything really, so long as you dont damage the card.

You want a nice light to firm pressure so the HS gets bonded nice and snuggly to the GPU core.

i guess a book will do, just make sure its balanced and wont tip over.
You could hold it with your fingers, but only if you want to stand around for a few hours LOL

IIRC i used a book with mine.

yeah. Low pressure clips could work. Provided the HS is on straight and u dont ding your card.

For more info about telstra, see my post in the other commin soon.
