I used to be able to fax. I have windows xp. I haven't used my fax since
about April. Now when I try to use it, it won't work. When I click on Phone
and Modem options in Control panel I get the message "Phone and Modem Control
Panel cannot be opened. You may have a problem starting telephony service."
I uninstalled and reinstalled the fax, but no change after that.

I didn't add on to the end, "What should I do"

This is not a problem with the fax program. You need to identify what
program has taken control of or locked your modem's telephony protocols. We
would have no way of knowing that. What other fax or communication programs
are installed on your computer? What steps created this problem?

I am having the same problem. Faxing worked this June, but
doesn't work now. I checked and Telephony is disabled
in services.

The programs I installed that might be causing the problem are:

-- PaperPort that came with a Visioneer scanner

-- Maple 10 (Doubtful)

-- The drivers for a D-Link AirPlus wireless card

-- The programs and drivers for a DVD+-RW drive: InterVideo. etc.

Any suggestion? Can the problem be corrected without uninstalling
the programs?

Is it possible that my firewall is doing this?

Thanks.

What happens when you set the telephony service to Automatic and
restart it?
