I was wondering if anyone has had any success using a rherostat with the 80mm vantec tornado fan? I've heard that the standard 5 watt rheostat can't handle the Tornado.

dunno about the Tornado, but ive tried rheostats on a 80mm delta screamer (4900rpm, 68.5cfm 49dBa.)

Im not sure of their rating but were probably 5watt ones too.

Really needed two rheostats in serial to do anything. the first reduced it from 4900rpm to 3900-4000rpm. adding the second got it down to a respectable 3200rpm or so.
Both rheo's got VERY hot after extended usage.
So much so just to be safe i stuck passive heatsinks on the back of em to cool the blighters down  .
