Most OEM purchasers hardly do normal upkeep like defrag, cleaning out the case with a can of air.. ect. I could see the pile of burned out systems that have never had the water filled or filled wrong...

If the Scatman can do it so can you...

Try shipping that system without leaks and/or damage under current conditions.

Or would you have to fill it when they opened the box? I don't see it as a likely possibility.

I can see it from smaller OEMs that deal with gamers, overclockers, and people who have a clue, but not the larger ones that deal with Joe Public buying his PC at Walmart, Dell, or some other name brand site. Half of those users don't want to know what's inside the box, as long as they can plug in and go, and sometimes that's difficult for them.

Water cooling? Maybe not.......liquid cooling, very possibly. There are plenty of fluids out there that could be used in a completely closed system that would not require maintenance by Joe User.

Hopefully, the form factor of OEM PCs should change soon - you could have a system like a mini hi-fi with 2.5" drives and all-in-one drive in one box and the CPU, PSU, and dedicated cooling system in the other box.

Isn't there a laptop with build-in watercooling?

My PC eats so much money that I'm in 'desperate' need of it to buy PC3500 RAM, help Svol with his OC project!

Heatpipes yes... water cooling... I haven't seen one. They could exist but that would not be practical.

The second link didn't work.

I said that they would most likely not be practical. That article said...

"Hitachi hopes to commercialise the product sometime between July and September for corporate users in Japan and plans to adopt the system for other products such as servers and PDPs (plasma display panels), which also generate large quantities of heat and require a lot of cooling, Uchiyama said." I still haven't seen one.

"The company also expects its water-cooling system to be a de facto standard throughout the industry and is currently in talks with several component manufacturers for licensing, Uchiyama said."

That could be true but just like most technology deployments, A. they never make it to market or B. they take forever to get to market.

Ever bought a new lawnmower or generator?
Most have tags like this:

THIS ENGINE IS SHIPPED WITHOUT OIL.
Manufacturer is not responsible for damage if you do not add oil before attempting to start this engine.

...so there is a precedent to ship water-cooled PCs without the water already in the system...
