Asus A7N8X Mobo, using ASUS Probe tool. XP1700+ is overclocked to 153x11 at 1.75V. HSF is Coolermaster HHC-001. Case allows me to select high, medium or low fan speed. This is what is reported by the probe at each setting

H: 40 @ 7200 RPM
M: 43 @ 5700 RPM
L: 45 @ 3700 RPM

These are degrees Celsius. Those temps do not fluctuate much when I encode an MP3. I'm not sure if the probe is faulty or if I have adequate cooling :)

The temps do seem high, but I've heard not-so-great things about the HHC-001. How many case-fans do you have, and what case is it? And the temps don't fluctuate while encoding... hmm, maybe there is something wrong with the probe... Try using the cooling utility that comes with the board's software, see if that helps, otherwise, I need to know more about your case-cooling.

Those temps are perfect, especially for a wildly overclocked athlon :) As long as theyre not like 70 at idle youll be fine, infact those temps are better than those of my p3 system (generally a very cool processor).

I have the thermaltake 6000. It has 5 80mm case fans. Two at front, two at rear and one on the side. My concern was actually that they might be too low, 45 doesn't seem very high for what i'm doing :) On the other hand I probably do have enough air blowing through the case, so the temps could be justified.

Those temps are normal: you got a good HSF and a good airflow inside your case.

My PC eats so much money that I'm in 'desperate' need of it to buy PC3500 RAM, help Svol with his OC project!

Your temps are fine. I`ve got exactly the same CPU and HSF and on my Epox 8K9a temps are about 2-4 degrees higher than yours but I`m running mine @ 166x11 @ 1.825v (1830mHz) and I`ve lapped mine too.

Your new hardware is out-of-date
