How much of a system would you need to run half life back in the day????

Hello, I know that today Half life 1 can be run on anything and a broken toaster, but out of curiosity, what build would you need to Run half life 1 when it first came out

a pentium 3or 4 would do it and a dx8 gfx card... not a lot by todays standard but back in the day it would cost about $/£1000 to play it maxed out at release...
pretty much the same as bf3 today...
to max it out at 60 fps you are looking at roughly $1000/£750 (exchange rate has shifted slightly).
