P4 temperatures

what would be a safe idle temp for a pentium 4 2.4b. I am using air cooling, and at 3 ghz i get about 44-45 idle is that too hot?

3Ghz overclocked, thats pretty good for air cooling. Are you using a copper hsf?

mx4000 with tornado it got great reviews and boy does it work unoverclocked it idles at 32 celcius , but about that temp, also is it common for you to lose data after a failed overclock? mcx4000? niiice.

Unfortunately data corruption and loss is a risk you face when overclocking...
It really depends what happens with your system/ram while in an overclocked state before it fails, particulary when pushing the PCI/AGP speeds or the ram.

Thats why i do big backups before attempting overclocking, and test the overclock thouroughly.

on my 2.4b with B0 stepping on an albatron PX845PE PRO IIS...i can reach 2.88ghz (160fsb) ddr400 (2.5 memory divider) and my cpu temps are around 35C....I am using only a cpu voltage of 1.6 and yes the mcx4000 heatsink, artic silverIII, with a thermaltake smartfanII...this hsf is awesome....non overclocked my temps range from 29C to 32C under full load...
what is your cpu voltage setting?.....what mobo are you using?....what is your memory divider set at?...as long as you dont get into the 55-60C range you should be fine

Lock the AGP/PCI and that should reduce to remove data corruption as a problem. When you push the PCI too high is when data corruption happens the most.

Indeed. Ive allways loved the swiftech line, despite the high price.
Ive got the 'baby brother' to your heatsink, the MCX-462 with a super quiet 80mm panaflo 21dBa fan atop.

Even with my Tbred XP1700+ overclocked 25% @ 1.7v running full load and blistering room temperature of 29.5C its as stable as a rock!

I like my Swiftech MCW-462B with bigger tube connectors and holes drilled in the copper baseplate.

Oh did I say it is a waterblock?
