Hi,

You might have seen my previous post in this forum. Still haven't decided!

If you have used or are using the Zalman CNPS6000CU please let me know what you think of it.

Please post your CPU idle temp and the CPU you used or are using.

I'm not sure if I should buy it - mixed opinions in reviews.

If you want a quite hsf, try the glacialtech igloo 2410. Its only 26dba, comes with silver based thermal paste, and its only $12. I use one, my idle temps are 42C and at load its at 49C.

I'm using the Zalman CNPS6000CU on a AMD XP2100+. I find it to be a great setup. With the fanmate turned down, you realy can't even hear the thing, and it still keeps the CPU reasonably cool. This was the main selling point for me, because I didn't want the PC to get captured in the mic whaen I record audio. Because of the 92mm fan and it's position, it also adds a bit of cooling to the chipset on my A7V333 as well. It's not really good for overclocking, but I don't overclock this PC because it's my audio workstation. The only other downside is that the Fanmate doesn't spoof a higher fan speed, so I have to turn off the fan speed alarm on the motherboard.

I just replaced the HSF on my 1.3 Duron system with the Zalman CNPS3100+ and am happy with the performance, no noise at silent mode. The CPU temp is about 118 F at idle and 130 F at 100% load. Note that I don't have a case cooling fan.

The 1.3 Duron puts out the same max Watts as an XP2000+ (T-bred). The Zalman fits ok on my ECS K7S5A MB, but you need to check if it fits your MB. I was originally planning to replace the fan on my older HSF, but decided I didn't want to run hotter and so replaced the entire HSF with the Zalman.

Now I have to replace the PS, it's still too damn loud and I'm tired of the noise polution.

I have the CNPS6000-Cu on my XP2100+ with the Tbred 'b' core running at 2250Mhz. thats the same as an XP2800+. With the side of my case off the CPU temperature is 41 degrees and with it on the temperature is 50 degrees. hence I am VERY happy with this heat sink. as has already been posted, the large fan also manages to circulate air around the ram and north bridge of my Epox 8k9a2+. even though it was more expensive than other coolers I believe that it was worth every cent. especially with regard to noise. even with the side of the case off noise is not really an issue!

50C with a XP2100+!!!!????

Got my money back for the Zalman ages ago.

Do you have any ideas why my XP1700+ is 60C with the Zalman?

Does the Tbred B core run cooler than my Palomino core?

Gonna get a SLK800 with a Pabst 12DB soon. Quieter and hopefully cools better than the Zalman

It could just simply be that your CPU and mobo combo reads the CPU temp overly high.

If it runs without crashing what does it matter that its 50C instead of 45?

I'm running one of these on my XP2400 (no o/c) and it tends to idle at about 45C (up to about 55 when gaming), i have 2 case fans (one in one out) and i run them all pretty much silently.

I'd say i'm about 75% happy, its a doddle to install, very quiet and it looks pretty snazzy too.

with regard to my previous post, with a thermaltake volcano 6Cu+ on the same CPU and board combo, I was up at the 65 degree mark. thats with he side of the case on. I currently leave the side of the case off have the vcore set at 1.875V 166 FSB X 13.5 runs at 2250 or in other words 2800+. PERFECTLY STABLE at 41 degrees idle. this may be the motherboard monitor telling me porky pies about the temp and may be due to variations in room temp (it is summer here at the moment), but as long as there's no flames its all good. saved myself alot of money buying this CPU and not something aparently faster.
