I am thinking of upgrading to an XP 2700+ (or somthing like that), and I began to wonder if I should replace my HS. Well, the one I have now is a Taisol CGK760092 with an upgraded fan (24cfm instead of the 21.9 standard). If you go to Taisol.com, it lists the CGK760092 as "OK" up to a 2100+. AMD says that the Taisol CGK760172 is "OK" up to 2700+, but if you look carefully, you will notice that both coolers are *very* similar. You will also notice that the model #'s are similar; CGK760172 vs CGK760092, they are of the form CGK760--2 which (on Taisol's site) means that they are the same exact HS/fan, but with different interface material. if the 2 blanks are 00, there's no material, 09 Chomerics T725, and 17 Honeywell PCM45 Grease. Well, I use AS3 on mine right now, and the "other" stuff has long been scraped off. so, my question is, Will I need to get a new HS even though I use AS3? Is AS3 "better" than the Honeywell PCM45? If so, then wouldn't it make sense that the CGK760--2 HS/fan combo with AS would be "OK" for an Athlon XP 2700+?

Thanks;

Check the base... the latter talsio's for high end AMD cpu's had a copper base pressed into them, while still looking superficially the same.

AS3 is better than generic gunk, but not by very much. besides you should only use a sparingly paper thin amount anyway.
Its up to you.
