A7N8X deluxe or no?

Hi Guys/Gals

I'm about to upgarde my mobo/RAM.

My question is should I get the A7N8X deluxe or non? I don't need the deluxe features at all but have heard that the non deluxe is not as stable?? Please post any info you may have on your new mobos stability. I would like to unlock my 1800+ at the same time and try to run at 200MHz FSB. I've had the CPU at 1713MHz for awhile now with no issues (and no volt increase lol) but ran into a stop because the hdd bus was making my hdd make funny noises and act strange:(. This means I'll need to go down to atleast a mult. of 8.5 (1700MHz) to make sure the CPU can handle it, then slowly work my way up to maybe 1900MHz (still don't know which core I have :(. My system is below minus the old mobo and RAM of course :)
I'll be getting two matched sticks of Corsair XMS3500 CL2 256MB to go with it.

Thanx for any input.

The deluxe is shweet baby. I havnt heard anything about the standard model. I would think it would have less problems than the deluxe because of the missing hardware.
I got the deluxe over the standard, not because i needed the extra features but because i had the extra 30 bucks at the time. So its really a mater of $ in ur pocket and your wants/needs.

Just bought a basic A7N8X with an AMD Athlon 1800+.

I overclocked my CPU to 166 * 11.6 (1917MHz) without any problem and major tweaking (core voltage to 1.65V). It is rock solid!

But I think the A7N8X (basic) is overpriced, I would have buy a MSI K7N2, but wasn't available in stores near me and I didn't want to wait.

If I would want to get a new mobo I would buy the Epox 8RDA+ at the moment... a overclockers delight mobo.

Anybody have reputable reviews for the Epox 8RDA+. I'm after OCing. Still not sure if my CPU(1800+) is a Palimino or TBred A, however it runs at 1713 nice, unfortunately my mem doesn't like anything above 296MHz and aggresive timings as it's 333 cl 2.5. Best I can post at right now is 2-3-3-6 even at 266 FSB :(. I'll be getting a matched set of Corsair XMS3500LL CL2 256 sticks to go with the new mobo :)(think I already mentioned that though).

Here's a review, I must say even though I don't have this board. my last two mobo have been epox, currently their KT400 board 8k9a2+ and they always seem to allow absolutely ridiculous clock speeds and voltages. I know mine have always been perfectly stable. not that the asus isn't. the only bad thinig I can say about epox is that on both my boards teh ATX connector is in the stupidist place. anyway here it is.

Thanx for the link, very good review. Think I'll being seeing where I can get my hands on an Epox 8RDA+ board :). Thanx for the help guys and I'll keep posted on the progress. End of tax season at latest :). Shooting for atleast 200MHz even if I have to buy new processor.

Anandtech has a review of the board or of the nForce2 chipset where they are extremely positive about the board.

If you want to know the core type just look at it or tell me what the model number is in WCPUID.

That will be a Palomino... it is almost the same display as my Palomino except for the speed.

According to my theory the model number explains all:
6/6=Palimino (varified)
7/7=T-bred A (guess)
8/8=T-bred B (varified)

Someone there with a T-bredA that want to proof my theory?

Thanx for the info. So does that imply a limit as to how far I can OC this with air cooling (good air cooling btw), or do I still need to know the stepping on the core? Ya WCPUID reads my core right, if I turn the FSB down :), however why does it say 6 (7) for steeping and not 6 (6)?

Yes... the Palomino doesn't OC very high. I thionk 1.9 GHz is your maximum with aircooling... maybe 2GHz if you're very lucky.

The 7 stands for K7 which means it is an Athlon core.

I'd be very happy at 1.9 as right now can't go any higher than 1.713. That would mean 11x166=1.826 or 11.5x166=1.909 (my correct multiplier :):)), OR 9x200=1800 or 9.5x200=1.900. Would be all good. I've read the Epox 8RDA+ manual and compared benches, reviews, FAQ's and issues, have decided it's the board for me. Looking to where I can get one from London,Ontario, shouldn't be to hard. Will try with old RAM to start, but it's pretty much sold now anyway so doesn't really matter.

Again thanx for the info.

No, unfortunately I can't get a hold of as3 unless I drive 200km to Toronto :( (which I will be doing when I get my mobo and ram). I would love to know but would have no paste to reattach my CPU :(.
