Warped Pipes?!?

I posted previously about bubbles in my circuit. Since then a lot has happened. My housemate (who we'll call 'fred' for reference sake!) proceeded to switch on my newly installed innovatek gear, while the water cooling was switched off!

I was informed by fred that it lasted about 35secs before a loud bang and the sound of a waterfall forced him to unplug evertything!

The chip was fried, and the tubing around the cpu block burst. luckily everything else was ok.

So then fred re-purchased the goods and i installed it all again.

This time no bubbles, and it all seemed dandy...... until.... a few days ago, i found that the tubing entering and mainly exiting the cpu block were beginning to warp!

Im using a 80mm fan on a blackice micro radiator. I would have liked an 120mm but space constraints hindered that idea. CPU temps hit 45degrees when under load, and dwindle around 40 when idle. I know its not ideal but i really want to reduce noise and have had to compromise due to space.

Im using innovatek 3/8 tubing, but is it likely that they will burst if these temps continue?

Hope you enjoyed the story! any suggestions would be appreciated.

Magic.

Wow. First, if it 'splodes again, buy the Tygon tubing. Second, JEEZLY CROW!

Are you sure there's nothing wrong with the pump? It's not getting, like, 'extreamly hot' from a short circut is it?

I think you should let the system run for a few hours with the filler cap off and the res. filled to the very lip. Be sure to protect your electronics.

Wow that is incredibly cheap vinyl... My hoses have done the opposite of your problem! :) They collapse whenever a high pressure front moves in. :p

Ah well, I guess I'll install copper tubing.

All copper tubing to within reason- it still has to be flexable enough to remove stuff. I'll install rubber vacuum tubing and brass barbed fittings later on... I'm still healing from this project.

You might like to look into a variable speed 80mm fan for your radiator. Thermaltake has one with a built in heat sensor that varies fan speed according to temperature. Might help keep things a bit saner for you.

Lets hope your friend doesn't forget to turn on the pump again. <G>
