Unlocking a 2500+ barton

I figured I can put my 2500+ at 3000 levels if I open the 1st contact on the L3 bridge. Has anyone done this? how exactly do you open a bridge? The article says that copper wire will close it, is openning taking a knife to it or something?

More about unlocking 2500 barton
  1. I haven't done this... but if you take a sharp (and preferably small) knife and slowly cut the bridge it should work.

My dual-PSU PC is so powerfull that the neighbourhood dims when I turn it on
  2. Two things to keep in mind, remeber certain M-boards have the multiplier already unlocked for the XP 2200 and greater. Secondly, don't be so sure about getting you Barton 2500 to run at 3000 levels. (If you're lucky you might) But for the most part, when AMD manufactures a wafer of Barton processors, the faster ones get sold as 3000+ and the ones that can't get to those speeds get sold as lesser model numbers. (The reason the THG reviewers are able to get such high overclocking capabilities on their processors is that they are hand-picked by AMD, i.e. they only send the fastest ones into the field for benchmarking and testing)

Still, Hope it works out :-)
