I just tried out the the v620, and it doesn't work on my laptop -
something about bus mode incomparability. Does anyone know if there's
any evdo card that I will be able to use?

Many thanks.

It depends on your laptop.

If you are using an IBM ThinkPad T41, there is a discussion on
EVDOforums.com that steps you through getting it to work:

There are some problems with power to the PCMCIA on specific Dell
models too.
