My barton oced to 2.121ghz(but my alphapal8045 is mismounted due to my chaintech mobos too small holes!)

It will boot into windows at 2.4ghz but lock soontherafter due to heat.(i will reseat the hsf one day, its a pain in the ass)

My fsb is 193(192 detected on the boot screen, mobo bios issue)
multiplier is 11

my scores are here

Just getting started, but with stock cooling it's looking pretty good.

Last night just fooled around with the multi. Was able to take it all the way to 12.5. Which the A7N8X-DLX is limiting me to this multi.

2500+ Barton 1826MHZ overclocked to (166x12.5=2075Mhz)
Stock HSF
CORSAIR MEMORY XMS Low Latency (Twin Pack) 512MB(2 x 256MB)PC-3200LLPT 4-2-2-2-1T
ATI All-In-Wonder RADEON 9700 PRO 128MB
Antec 430W Power Supply TRUE430
Lian Li 6089A (2 intake & 2 Exhaust Fans)
48C idle 50C loaded
Old 40Gig WD HDD - Weakest Link

hitting 6300 range on the 2k2 PCMARK CPU benchmark

Next step see how high the FSB will go. I think this one will go to 2.5+ easy with better HSF. Right now it's equal to a stock 2800+ Barton 2.08Ghz. That saves me $195 so far.

I'm running stable at 172x12.5 (2153.32). I would go higher, but 1. my system crashes with higher FSBs (and I don't want to lower my RAM settings, because it's good the way it is), and I can't get any higher multipliers. Anyone here had the balls to cut the last L5 bridge yet? I might if lots of people have success doing it.

Here are some additions to the specs listed below:
Thermaltake Xaser II 6000A plus
Enermax 450W PS
Thermaltake Volcano 9+ with coolmod.

Keep the scores coming boys.

You can go higher than 172 fsb, just play around with the cpu and ram voltage. I have the multiplier set at 12.5 and fsb set to 183(says 182 at post) and upped the cpu voltage to 1.75 and ram voltage to 1.67 and it running great. The temp in the bios is at round 53*C, and that is a litle high but to problems so far. In WCPUID says my speed is 2288.84MHz when a 3000+ is 2.16GHz... I just saved myself $400!!! Right now my bottle neck is my Radeon 7000, my 9700 is in RMA status. Once I get that back I'll be posting my specs and some benchmarks.

I was thinking the same thing last night after I posted. Right now I'm at 44 and that's definitely acceptable, considering I was running my Palomino with the same cooler at 53-55 with no overclock (i was a noise fanatic, but with 8 fans in my case now, that just can't happen). So, I'll do it and let you know, especially considering how good my ram is.

[edit]

I just upped it to 180, because at 185 my computer was posting 1100mhz (I don't know why) and it seems stable so far. All that was needed was a voltage boost.

I gotta say, this chip is awesome with a little bit of cooling. I mean, this is a 400Mhz overclock, which is what I was hoping for, and I'm sure I could go higher. I'll post my temp later this morning when it's been running for a while. So far it's steady at 47, but rising just a wee bit.

[edit]

I dropped it down to 179 as in a game, i got the ole BSOD. It seems fine now, and running at around 49-50 degrees, which is still much cooler than my old pal. Now, any suggestions on how to get 185 or unlock the higher multipliers? I want to see if I can hit 2400.

Well I did finnaly got the BSOD at 183. So now the settings are 182FSB, CPU voltage 1.775, RAM voltage 1.67. So far after hours of game playing things are still stable.

But I was woundering how you are checking your temps. Are you using the ASUS PC Probe to monitor your temps? I was too untill I notice that the temp reading for the CPU was 10*C more than what was read in PC Probe, And I trust the BIOS more than from what someone called "ASUS Anal Probe."

We have almost the exact same set up:

Athlon 2500+ (12.5 x 182 = 2275)
ASUS A7N8X-DX
2x512 Corsair XMS PC2700
Gigabyte Radeon 9700 Pro (In RMA status, using Radeon 7000)
16x DVD-ROM
120GB 2MB cache WD
Enlight 420w Dual Fan PSU
Globalwin CAK-II 16 HSF with Artic Silver paste (going to try lapping soon)
4 case fans

When I get my 9700 Pro back I'll post some benchmark scores. I would like to see some scores from people who have almost the same setup except using pc3200. I bought the PC2700 insted of the PC3200, because from what I've seen from benchmarks is that an Athlon system runs fast synchronously than asynchronously. But the PC3200 would be more vauble in the future once AMD hit the 400MHz milestone.

I'm checking my temps with something called hmonitor. It's a tsr I use just to make sure everything is cool. I got HDD temps, and fan speeds, and everything. It's a pretty nice piece of software. I don't know how accurate it is though...

And as for my FSB, I'm going to try for 185 when I get my Thermalright SLK-800. That is one sweet-ass sink. I'm going to keep it hooked up to my Smartfan II with the coolmod, just because I got the window with the explicit purpose of having some case lighting. I don't want it to go to waste.

Concerning the video card, I'm going to get a Radeon 9700 pro fairly soon. I know a good place to get one cheap, and I'll pick it up in roughly a month or so. Then it will be all gravy....

Treat your signature like a toothbrush: Don't let anyone else use it, and get a new one every few months.

$300 cdn for a 2500+? That seems pretty reasonable to me. It's about the same price as a P4 2.4 or so. And considering how high I have it clocked already, this seems like a pretty nice chip.

right now its at 2075Mhz>>12.5x166 cpu voltage=1.725

just about an hour ago i had it running at 169x12.5=2114Mhz cpu volt. at 1.775
but it froze on me. i think due to heat. what do u guys sugest raze the fsb first and after that the voltage? btw what is the max temp. for the mobo?

cpu temp. around 45-50C

lol no the 2500 bartons look great for the overclocks that have been reported I was referring to the $500USD price of the 3000's that is the highest price I can ever remember seeing an amd chip go for.

Pull the lips over the gums look out testicles here I come! -What is that from?

i finally know what the problem was. i had my fsb for agp on auto so now i set it on 66Mhz.

i'm running at 2125Mhz 70x12.5 cpu volt. 1.750 (is this to high?)
the only thing i'm worried about right now is my temp. in the bios it says after playing games my temp is 57C which is a bit high. but on both the asus probe and hmonitor its about 10C lower.

my rig:

XP 2500+ @ 2125Mhz

I attached a Thermalright SLK-800 and a Thermaltake Smartfan II to mine. The best I can get is about 185x12 = about 2300 or so (not at home, so can't open CPUID, will update when I get back).

Frankly, I'm disappointed in the lackluster overclock I'm getting. I was hoping for 2400 with this heatsink, but no go. I'm running my fan at about 4000rpm, about 80% of max (because any faster and it's just too bloody loud), plus it has two rear exhaust fans, two front intakes, and one side intake, plus the PS's fans. According to my Hardcano 3, my CPU temps are sitting around 42 under load (always under load, because I run SETI), and I don't know my idle temp, but it has to be about 36. Now why the snot can't I get more power out of this thing? I have fairly lenient memory timings, so that isn't it.

I want to get 185x12.5 ideally, but it just won't cut it. In fact, when I try to run Prime95 at these settings, it locks the whole computer. Right now it is even giving me errors, though nothing else is having any problems at all (no BSOD's, no crashes, except this one game that crashes even when I'm not overclocking). So, anyone out there hit the magical 2400?

I just put together a new system around this chip.

XP2500
A7N8X deluxe
Corsair XMS-LL PC3200 DDR 2x256 (dual channel config)
Radeon 9700pro
Win XP
DX8.1
Thermaltake volcano 7+
etc...

Well I immediately overclocked it. I was running it all day at 11.5/190 howeer, when playing an il2 campaign mission for a long time my cpu was locking up and a cold boot was required. 3dmark 01 runs fine though and my cpu temps according to the bios readings were idle ~40C

I did not fool with the vcore or the ram voltages. I am hoping to get this thing up to 2.2 - 2.3. If i can do that i;d be very happy. I dont have much exp. tweaking voltages, but if you guys have any tips for me to reach this goal that'd be great.

You can test CPU stability by running Prime95 for a couple of hours... this really stresses the CPU.
If the CPU seems unstable then slightly increase the VCore... looks like your HSF can handle the extra heat.

My dual-PSU PC is so powerfull that the neighbourhood dims when I turn it on

Well so far i've got the mulitplier set to 12.5 and the fsb up to 180. Thats 2.25 ghz. I also set the vcore up to 1.72. Got it to get into windows. Ran a IL2 forgotten battles and didn't get a crash (running it on full maxed settings). When i run a WCPUID it shows it at 1.25@360mhz bus. It is also naming it as an XP2800. Is this right to be named an xp2800 when its clocked higher? I''m going to run more tests to see if it remains stable.

svol

Champion
Yes it gets renamed to XP2800+ if it runs at 2.25GHz with 256 kb L2 cache... your has 512kb and should be named XP3200+ or something. But WCPUID doesn't recognize that CPU yet... maybe a newer version will. Are you sure WCPUID shows it at 1.25 and not as 12.5?

Nice OC so far!
