OK tommorow they're gonna show "The final Flight of Osiris", THe MATRIX and another matrix related thing on TV back to back. YAY! And i want to record it. I have a TV tuner so i can capture, It's a pinnacle. The thing is i dont know which resolution or format is best for good IQ as well as small size. DIVX? Which version, or mpeg, or DVD?
Lemme know quick People. Reloaded is gonna release soon too so it'll help me refresh my memory

well mpeg2 would be the best because its the highest quality

But Divx can look almost identicle and take up much less space. try Divx with the highest settings maybe? or buy the DVD they are at Future shop :)

oh yeah and those anime's RULE. dam they are good

DVD Longplay: Mpeg 2 3.50 Mb/s Size 352*576
DVD: Mpeg 2 6.00 Mb/s Size 720*576

Custom: I have the following choices in custom
Mpeg 1 avi
Mpeg 1
Mpeg 1 hq

Mpeg 2 I

DIV X (it's 352*288) which is less than Mpeg 2 btw.

Don't capture in divx. It's too processor intensive and you'll likely get dropped frames.

Mpeg1 is vcd. It sucks compared to the other formats.

Mpeg2 is dvd format. It's good but large.

Mpeg4 is divx. It's good and small but it's also processor intensive to create.

If you have the diskspace I would recommend capturing in "DVD: Mpeg 2 6.00 Mb/s Size 720*576", then converting to divx after the capture.

Fugure on about 2.5 gigs an hour for the mpeg4 capture, and about 500 megs an hour after conversion to divx (I'm being generous here). So if it's a 2 hour movie you'll need 5 gigs of diskspace for the initial capture and another gig for the conversion.

If you haven't got the diskspace then I would recommend svcd over vcd.

Unless you have a hyperthreaded p4 with at least 512 megs or RAM capturing in divx (mpeg4) is not an option. Using my Athlon 1800+ with 256 megs of RAM it takes me about twice as long to convert to divx as the actual movie itself. If I tried to capture in it in divx/mpeg4 about half the frames would be dropped.

Thanks for the help. But i dont have a dvd drive so i'll have to split the file into pieces to fit them on multiple cds and that would leave me with the option of watching it on my comp only.
I have 2.4B 256MB RDRAM.

how much hdd space do you have?? if possable try and use fullframs uncompressed and then reprocess it in to divx. thats they way that i do it when capping. you will need somehing in the reagon of 80-100 gig of sapce for that though. other wise mpeg2 and recompress it after ward. after recompresion it will fit on a cd nice and easy. as for the computer problem not much you can doo un less you dont mind havey it on an svcd and 2 or mor cd's (vcd is just plain sh!t so dot even go there) or you could do waht i do and get a moded xbox (bit expensive for just one film but i have a lot on anime so it was a good option) btw get on and defrag your drive now else threr will be a good chance of droped frames.

Now thats what I want to know!
