Multi Colors when playing Certain game. Help Pls!!

Hi all,

I posted a few days earlier describing a problem that I was having trying to play a certain game (NFS most wanted) unfortunately nothing was exactly helpful, appreciated none the less.

I have attached a link to a picture displaying the problem, hopefully someone has some other suggestions..

System specs:
Windows 7, I5 2320 3.0ghz, 8gb ram, 1tb hd, asus Ve28q Full HD 1080p (1920x1080) display and a nvidia Gt530 1gb ddr3.

  1. This problem is usually caused by either a faulty video card or a faulty PSU, or both. To check to see if it's a faulty video card, try a different video card. If you don't have a spare one, just temporarily use the onboard video. If the problem persists, it might be that your PSU is either faulty or not powerful enough.
  2. looks like your gfx is switching to 16bit... check your display prefrences in your desktop it may be set to 16bit and then causing the game to do the same.
either that or your running an unsupported rez in the game.

Hi, thanks for the insight.. When I originally posted about this problem somebody suggested that I may need to upgrade my psu (I was running a 350w at the time), I have since purchased and installed a thermaltake 750w keeping in mind that I may need a gpu upgrade. HOWEVER, i am aware that the gt 530 is an entry level card in the 500 series so my expectations really aren't that high.. What puzzles me is that i have recently purchased (in the past few months) and installed just cause 2, dishonored, skyrim, the saboteur, deus ex and darksiders 2 which all ran fine and just cant understand why this is happening. If i need a new gpu, so be it.. but is nfs really that much more demanding ?

You're right. NFS is not more demanding than dishonoured or dark siders 2. The new one is JUST AS demanding, but not more. And the older ones, such as most wanted, are definitely not more demanding. If you upgraded your PSU to the 750w one, that's all right. So ruling out the PSU problem, that leaves the video problem. It's true that you would be better off upgrading your GPU, however if your current GPU is running the other, mor demanding games just fine, then it HAS to be a problem with your NFS Most Wanted settings. Go over your settings again and see if you can find something that isn't right. I don't think it's a resolution problem, as much as it's a graphic/detail problem. Just check the display/video settings and let me know what they are. :)

ok Here shines my newbie! lol Im fairly new to pc gaming and because I havent had an issue running any other games I havent much looked into graphic setting etc.. So when you say display/video settings what exactly are you referring to ? settings within the game or my nvidia settings ?

  7. Both. Post your game settings and the kind of hardware you're running. So in game, check your video settings and make a note of it. Then in the Start Menu on windows, go to "run" and type "dxdiag". You'll get your GPU details there. :)

  9. Oh wow. Ok we actually only needed like 1/4th that info. Haha no problem. There are two things I spotted. One, is that it says DX Setup Parameters: Not found. This isn't right. It should just say DirectX 11 and stop at that... I have no idea why this is there, it shouldn't be. Secondly, your VRAM is only 978MB. This is the amount of memory your graphics card has. Of course, it's a 1GB card. This really shouldn't be a problem, but after seeing that you're running everything in Medium, and still facing this issue, it may well be that it's straining your card. Also, are your drivers up to date?
What happens when you switch your settings to low? Does the same problem occur?
