Frame rate in game and refresh rate of laptop screen

i play nfsw and i notice the framerate hovers between 40-55fps, but i would only get an actual 30fps if my screenrefresh rate is 60hz

in this case is it better to set my screen refresh rate to 40hz to get a solid 40fps?

any suggestion is appreciated thanks

you will get 30fps if you have vsync on as it locks it to your refresh rate or half.

Without vsync on you will be able to see up to 60fps and it will be much smoother than locking it to 40hz as that will send you down to 20fps if you ever drop below 40fps.
